Unfairto blame Craigfor England goalNo2

-

I HAVE to say that I thought Craig Gordon could have done better with England’s opening goal – but I didn’t blame the keeper for their killer second.

Although England dominated for long spells in the game without ever really threatening, they had far too much room through the middle.

For Celtic this season Stuart Armstrong and Scott Brown have been outstanding but they have two wide players either side of them. They have somewhere to play the ball out whereas they didn’t have that last weekend.

But as I say, while I think that Gordon was caught at the opening goal I am not so sure that he deserved to have the finger pointed at him for the second.

Armstrong could have done better, as he admitted afterwards, while even after that there could have been more done to stop the ball coming into that area.

Gordon has been a magnificent servant for Scotland and I have no doubt at all that he will continue to be a first pick for Gordon Strachan.

This was a very good England team so I think everyone would agree that for Scotland to get a draw – even in the circumstances where we threw away that lastminute goal – was better than we had hoped at the start of the match.
