A TEENAGER who pushed a woman out the way and grabbed her money as she was using a cash machine has been jailed.

Daniel Duffy, 18, approached a woman who was using an cash machine on Sauchiehall Street around 11.40am on April 12.

As the woman withdrew £100, Duffy came towards her from the left hand side and pushed her out of the way.

He then grabbed the cash from the machine and made off towards West Nile Street.

The victim chased the thief as he ran towards Renfrew Street and shouted to members of the public that he had stolen her money.

Duffy, of Hawthorn Street in Springburn, was eventually tracked down by cops after getting into a taxi.

As they apprehended him, they found cash on ground amounting to £95.

Duffy appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to stealing the cash and, while being conscious of his guilt, throwing bank notes into the street when approached by police officers to avoid prosecution and defeat the ends of justice.

His defence agent told the court that his client had no recollection of the incident and was ‘puzzled’ by his behaviour.

Sheriff McCartney said that she was not convinced that the teenager would comply with any orders after he told social workers he would not travel to carry out unpaid work and had no other choice but to imprison him.

Duffy was handed a five-month prison sentence.
