Blaze site homes to go ahead

- By STACEY MULLEN

HOMES will still be built on the site of a former school, despite a fire which damaged its roof earlier this week.

The Wheatley Group confirmed that the development of the former Greenview Primary School site in Parkhouse will go ahead as planned.

The Evening Times reported earlier this week that firefighters tackled a blaze at the site on Kippen Street.

Crews rushed to the scene at the former school at around 7.44pm on Monday, June 19.

Video footage posted on social media websites showed that the fire appeared to be in the roof area of the building.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire appliances and a height appliance to tackle the blaze.

Firefighters then used powerful water jets to extinguish the fire before crews left the scene after ensuring that the area had been made safe.

No one was injured as a result of the blaze but the roof of the building was damaged.

The Wheatley Group who acquired the building from City Property plan to build new homes on the site.

Loretto Housing Association, which is part of The Wheatley Group, will begin work on the 28 homes later this year.

The building was acquired by the housing association on March 17.

City Property sold it on behalf of Glasgow City Council.
