Friends reunited for Clyde boss Jim

- By DAVID BALFOUR

CLYDE boss Jim Chapman bolstered his squad by reuniting with two former players.

The Broadwood gaffer has secured a reunion with ex-Annan midfielder Kevin Nicoll on a one-year deal.

And a similar contract has been handed out to 24-year-old winger Max Wright, who also played under him at Annandale.

Nicoll, who has also had spells with Albion Rovers and Dumbarton, is making a return to the Bully Wee after he had a short loan spell at the club in 2013 when he played 10 matches.

And Chapman hopes the 31-year-old’s experience will be vital as he bids to launch a promotion assault from League 2.

Chapman said: “I’ve known Kevin since he was a young guy at Hamilton and we’re well aware of his capabilities.

“He’s got plenty of experience and he will add some steel to whole spine of the team.

“We know that Kevin’s had some bad luck with injuries in the past, but he’s been away from senior football for a while and has had less demands on him.

“From what I’ve seen so far at our pre-season, he’s in the best shape I have seen him in.”

Chapman is equally enthusiastic about the qualities that Wright will bring to his team.

He first entered the senior game with Alloa in 2011 and went on to have spells at Stranraer and, for three seasons, East Stirlingshire.

Last season, he made the switch to Galabank and his contribution at Annan Athletic convinced the manager to move to bring him to The Bully Wee for 2017-18.

“Max is another player we know very well,” Jim said. “He’s still a young player but he’s already been in the senior game for a long time.

“He’s mainly a creative, forward thinking player but he also has the versatility to do the defensive work or take on a different role. His application is first class and he has a willingness to learn, so he’s also the right type to fit into our dressing room.”
