Glas­gow War­riors sign up Ton­gan tight­head Sio

GLAS­GOW have stepped up their sum­mer spend­ing spree by fi­nal­is­ing the swoop on Ton­gan tough guy Siua Halanukonuka.

The Test prop will link up with the War­riors in Oc­to­ber af­ter his com­mit­ments with New Zealand side Tas­man Makos.

Prop Halanukonuka, who has clinched a twoyear deal at Scot­stoun, has also starred for the High­landers in Su­per Rugby and fig­ured for them off the bench as they beat the Lions in Dunedin last month.

The spe­cial­ist tight­head (in­set) said: “I’m re­ally ex­cited to be com­ing to Scot­land with my fam­ily.

“War­riors are a team aim­ing for ti­tles and big things. “I’ve heard all about their loyal fans and the great club at­mos­phere. “I am look­ing for­ward to be­ing a part of this.” Glas­gow as­sis­tant coach Jonathan Humphreys added: “Siua comes with a lot of ex­pe­ri­ence, hav ing played reg­u­larly in Su­per Rugby over the past two sea­sons.

“He will be a great ad­di­tion to our squad and will add to the com­pe­ti­tion at tight­head.”

Halanukonuka made his de­but for Tonga in 2014 in a 23-9 win over Ge­or­gia.

He has since gone on to win six caps and fea­tured in their fa­mous 19-17 vic­tory over Italy in Novem­ber 2016.

Halanukonuka also has ex­pe­ri­ence of Euro­pean rugby, hav­ing made 10 ap­pear­ances for French side Nar­bonne.

He be­comes the 10th new player to join Glas­gow ahead of the new sea­son, with Huw Jones, Cal­lum Gib­bins, Oli Keb­ble, Adam Hast­ings, Lelia Masaga, Sa­muela Vu­nisa, Ki­ran Mc­Don­ald, Bran­don Thom­son and Ge­orge Turner al­ready signed up.
