Buckfast thief threatened to murder cops, court told

- By JENNESS MITCHELL

Court Reporter THIRD time was not so lucky for a Buckfast thief.

When arrested for his serial sticky fingers, Jason Fox threatened to “pound” the police before menacing: “I’ll f****** murder you all.”

The 33-year-old carried out his shoplifting spree at Croftfoot petrol station in Castlemilk Road.

Fox laughed at the staff as he left the store without paying for two bottles of Buckfast.

He returned to pinch two more before stealing another three bottles on his third attempt.

Police eventually attended and watched the CCTV.

He was traced back to his home street in Croftfoot’s Kirkconnel Drive where he was found with some of the stolen bottles of the tonic wine.

He threatened to “pound” the officers, and, in response to being handcuffed, he warned: “The minute I get these off, I’ll rip your throat out. I’ll f****** murder you all.”

At Cathcart police station, Fox continued his foul-mouthed tirade.

He said he would “smash” the officers, branded them “scumbags” and threatened: “My pals will see to you all. You’re getting murdered tonight.”

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Fox pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of alcohol on three occasions from Gulf Croftfoot Filling Station on January 14 this year.

He also admitted shouting, swear- ing, repeatedly spitting and uttering threats of violence towards officers within a police car to Cathcart station and at Hairmyres Hospital later on the same date.

Fox – who is currently serving an 80-day sentence at Barlinnie for another matter – was said to “appreciate the difficulty he is in”.

His lawyer stated that his “biggest problem is alcohol” – claiming that Fox had little recollection of the incident but accepted what was reported by the police.

Fox has since detoxed while in custody and attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings within the Glasgow prison.

Sheriff Allan Findlay asked: “Do you want some help, Mr Fox?”

Fox replied that he did. The case was adjourned until March 5 for an alcohol court assessment.
