Glasgow Times

Standing up for Glasgow’s sporting future

-

LAST year, when it became a serious possibility that Hampden could be lost, The Evening Times decided that couldn’t be allowed to happen.

We launched the Save The Hampden Roar Campaign which quickly caught the imagination of fans and the attention of decision makers.

The paper was clear it couldn’t be a spectator and watch as one of the city’s most recognisable assets and a place filled with history and memories was consigned to oblivion.

We offered a platform for those who wanted to tell the SFA what Hampden meant and soon the emotional responses where matched by hard economic facts.

The stadium plays a huge role in the economy of the South Side of the city but also Glasgow as a whole, as business leaders and politicians spelled out the importance of Hampden.

The SFA may have taken the decision based on what it considers to be in the best interests of its member clubs as is its purpose.

The Evening Times wanted to ensure that people had a voice and a paper always prepared to stand up for the interests of Glasgow, its people, it’s businesses and its history.
