High-end flats plan for West End cafe site

A FORMER West End cafe located in a conservation area may be demolished to make way for high-end flats.

The Arcaffe restaurant and The Sandwich Concept cafe, on North Claremont Street, have been earmarked for demolition by developers.

The site, close to Kelvingrove Park, would be used as the location of 12 new homes in a ‘high-end residential development’, a planning application lodged with the city council has revealed.

Planners have described the building as ‘not fit for purpose for redevelopment’ in their justification for knocking it down.

The developer said is foresees the owner mix to be a variety of young professionals in smaller flats and small to medium-sized families occupying the larger ones.

The proposals will now go before by Glasgow City Council’s planning committee.
