Backtrack on Square plans

EMBATTLED Glasgow city councillors begun a dramatic U-turn after massive public pressure to keep trees in George Square.

Furious readers slated the City Fathers after the order went out to begin the “Chainsaw Massacre of George Square”.

And the council pledged a rethink on the way the historic gathering place will look...new trees are to be planted.

But the move was not enough to calm to storm of protest.

They would not be planting permanent trees which would flourish along with the city to replace the 24 that were felled.
