Barcelona call by MSP in bid to promote city

-

GLASGOW should celebrate Charles Rennie Mackintosh in the same way Barcelona is renowned for the architect Antoni Gaudi, according to a city politician.

MSP Adam Tomkins intervened as the debate continues over plans to rebuild the Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh building after it was devastated by a second fire in June last year.

He said: “Glasgow needs to boost its tourist economy.

“One way of doing this would be to badge Glasgow as the Mackintosh city, as Barcelona is badged as Gaudi’s city.

“Why not rebuild the Mack as the jewel in our crown, as a living art museum open to the world, and as a magnet driving tourists to Glasgow?”
