Brighton Liverpool

- STEVE NAILOR

A MOHAMED SALAH doubled helped Premier League champions Liverpool to a 3-1 win over Brighton as Jurgen Klopp’s side close in on 100 points at the summit.

Liverpool made a flying start to the game and went 2-0 ahead inside eight minutes.

Salah fired home the first after Keita had dispossessed Davy Propper, before Henderson curled home from the edge of the box minutes later after Salah this time turned provider for his captain.

Brighton grew into the game and deservedly halved the deficit to 2-1 just before the break.

Albion winger Leandro Trossard, who claimed the winner at Norwich on Saturday, powered home on the half volley following Tariq Lamptey’s cross from the right.

Brighton had chances to equalise but Liverpool restored their two-goal cushion in the 76th minute when Salah nodded in half-time substitute Robertson’s corner.

The win left the Reds on 92 points with four games left to play, providing them the opportunity to better Manchester City’s record Premier League tally of 100 points from 2018.

The closest Liverpool have come to that record was ironically last season, when they reach 97 points yet lost the league to City.
