GLASGOW Lord Provost Bob Winter threw his weight behind the campaign to allow Precious Mhango and her mum to stay in Scotland.

In an unprecedented move, he had written to then Home Secretary Theresa May asking her to allow the pair to stay in the city which had become their home.

Mum Florence, 32, and 10-year-old Precious had been told to leave for Malawi that day or be deported.
