THE MAIN EVENT

In August the organisers of the Mexican Grand Prix confirmed the race would continue for another three years until 2022. The announcement was welcomed by both fans and F1 personnel since this race is one of the highlights on the calendar, and the promoters have been awarded ‘best event of the year’ by the FIA for the past four seasons.

Since Mexican driver Sergio Pérez has extended his deal with Racing Point, high spectator numbers are guaranteed, thanks to the passionate support of the locals.

Situated 7,500 feet above sea level, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is F1’s highest circuit, 5,000 feet higher than Brazil’s Interlagos. The thin air militates against the intended effects of the car’s aerodynamics, so teams run high-downforce setups to compensate.

2018 RACE RECAP

After his disappointment in missing out on pole to his Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen made amends on race day. At the start, Verstappen had a better launch off the grid than Ricciardo and took the lead into Turn 1. Max looked in command for much of the afternoon and comfortably took the fifth win of his career ahead of the Ferraris. Mercedes, struggling with tyre graining, didn’t have the pace to match its main opposition. But fourth place for Lewis Hamilton was enough to secure the British driver his fifth drivers’ world championship.

KEY CORNER: TURN 3 It’s important to get the last part of the ‘S’ bend right as the second DRS zone is located on the following straight.
