Fewer choices for consumers as salmon price soars
When was growing up, break ast time meant a bowl o cereal and staring into nothingness. Sometimes, the cereal packet was le on the table and time was spent reading the list o ingredients and wondering what ribo avin or ascorbic acid tasted like.
Nowadays, break ast is eaten with the distraction o the iPad or iPhone (other makes are available) and hence reading cereal boxes has become a thing o the past.
However, while pu ng away the Weetabix one morning, my eye was caught by the word salmon’ on the back o the pack.
Closer investigation revealed a headline How will you top it ’ This was accompanied by three recipes, one o which was or Super Salmon’. Smoked salmon and cream cheese is something closely associated with a bagel but Weetabix are suggesting that they be used or a topping on a Weetabix biscuit.
Weetabix is not the most exciting cereal when drowned in milk but dry get the eeling that there must be some orm o desperation be ore eating a dry Weetabix even i topped with smoked salmon and cream cheese, as well as lemon juice, chives and a slice o cucumber.
But then who thought o pu ng a slice o raw salmon on a lump o cold rice and yet sushi is now popular throughout the world.
While traditionalists might insist on raw fish, sushi is evolving to encompass a whole range o toppings, including tuna- not a slice o resh raw tuna but a spoon ul o cooked tuna straight out o the can.
