Salt harvesting
In Vietnam’s Bạc Liêu Province, workers harvest salt in the scorching sunshine. To get the salt, seawater is diverted at into shallow pools. As the water evaporates, the salt is left behind. The workers gather the salt into piles using a tool called a cào, before sending it away for storage. They have to work fast – according to residents, a downpour of rain will dissolve all the salt.
