SCOTLAND
It’s home to cutting-edge chefs such as Andrew Fairlie and an arts festival that continually pushes the boundaries but in 2017, Scotland will look to its past. It has been designated the year of history, heritage and archaeology and there are oodles of ways you can get involved. Scotland’s history spans Celts, clans and Roman conquerors so join archeologists unearthing secrets as part of the Dig It! festival.
Visit the Callanish Stones which are arranged in curious circles on the coast of Lewis and are older than the Great Pyramid of Giza. Edinburgh’s New Town is 250 years old this year and you’ll find everything from guided walks to day festivals among its crescents and Georgian mansions. The City Observatory will also be reopening in autumn as a world-class arts space after a £4million renovation project.
