BEST FOR: 10+

Make sure your safari accommodation has other diversions, such as a swimming pool or kids’ club (very young children are generally not allowed on game drives but can often go on mini ‘game drives’ nearer to camp). It’s also a good idea to combine your trip with other activities such as a beach stay in Kenya or Tanzania – where Zanzibar is the perfect foil to the dusty Serengeti – or include a visit to the spectacular Victoria Falls as part of a safari in adjacent Ztamrbaia voreZiml bsabtwer. aIn p

South Africa, spend a few days relaxing in Cape Town, where you can take a cable car up Table Mountain, swim with jackass penguins at Boulders Beach or visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. The other big factor to consider is malaria. If you want to avoid taking the dreaded tablets, opt for malaria-free parts of South Africa such as Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province.
