Be inspired by the Northern Lights and snowmobile in THE ARCTIC

-

BEST FOR: 6+

Witnessing the Northern Lights, one of nature’s finest displays, is uplifting and humbling. The multi-coloured light show, most commonly seen in the Arctic regions, is formed by fast-moving electrically charged particles that emanate from the Sun and are drawn to the Pole by the Earth’s magnetic field. Combine this ethereal sight with snowmobiling through the wilderness and you have a winning mix for a break the kids will talk about for a lifetime. The snowy wilds of Canada and Alaska are fine viewing points to see the Aurora Borealis but it’s more affordable and convenient to fly to Iceland or northern Scandinavia, commonly known as Lapland. If you choose Iceland, you can also experience its volcanic attractions, from geysers and boiling mud pools to swimming in the geothermal warm waters of the Blue

Lagoon. In Lapland, you can go husky sledding, visit reindeer farms, learn about the culture of the Sami people and stay at the Icehotel, although the novelty probably wears off after one night sleeping on ice at a ‘chilly’ -5C.
