Wine­mak­ers in the South­ern Hemi­sphere have been the prime movers here, of­fer­ing tours, con­certs, so­phis­ti­cated ac­com­mo­da­tion and des­ti­na­tion restau­rants. By sam­pling the pro­ducer’s wines with good food, drinkers be­come brand am­bas­sadors au­to­mat­i­cally. In re­cent years the Old World has upped its game, too. Vintners in ar­eas like Chi­anti are ac­com­mo­dat­ing group tours such as those by Ex­pres­sions Hol­i­days and of­fer­ing pack­ages that tie in re­gional ex­pe­ri­ences.
