FLAMINGOS RIFT VALLEY

The vast gatherings of gorgeous greater and lesser flamingos on Lake Bogoria, Lake Elmenteita and Lake Nakuru, among others, in Kenya's Rift Valley, comprise one of the most arresting bird spectacles anywhere in the world. The flamingos – up to two million of them at a time – feed on the lakes' abundant algae, which thrives in the warm, alkaline water.
