The Socceroos legend adds a bit of Turkish flair to jazz up a dream team dominated by former Liverpool and Leeds United colleagues

STEVE FINNAN “He was one of the most underrated players I have ever played with. He never gave the ball away and you could get the ball up to him at any height, under any amount of pressure, and he would always be calm and then find his way out of trouble. He was a great crosser, he was physical in the challenge and the best thing about him was that he worked his whole way up through all of the leagues to get where he did.”

LEE BOWYER “There are only a couple of players I know who could make box-to-box runs but also sneak into certain positions where they weren’t picked up and score goals – Lee was one of them. He would make that run 1,000 times a season because he had that dedication and he pushed himself to get into the box. He also had a great first touch, he could find a pass and he wasn’t afraid to mix it up, either – when people tried to bully him, he’d always stand up to them. He was very quiet off the field, he loved his fishing and was a very good golfer as well.”

MARK VIDUKA “He would occupy both of the centre-halves, he was great with his feet and he was great in the air. I played with him for Leeds and Australia and you could run off him. He would hold the ball up, he would bring other people into play and he had a natural eye for goal, too. Every player I have picked was a very strong character – Mark was the same. He knew when he was right, but he’d also admit when he was in the wrong.”
