SALAH FOR PRESIDENT

-

Mo Salah is known as the Egyptian King, and he could have become the Egyptian president too if voters had got their way.

Such is the wing wizard’s fame that when Egypt held recent presidential elections, football fans crossed out the names of the actual candidates on the ballot paper, and voted for Liverpool’s star man instead.

“I was initially going to void my vote,” Cairo resident Abdullah Hani tells FFT. “Abdel Fattah el-sisi was going to win anyway, and when I was there I thought, ‘Salah deserves a vote’. He has made Egyptians feel very happy by sending us to the World Cup. It was spontaneous. I sent my mother a photo of the ballot paper – she was super mad at what I’d done.”

Hani’s photo went viral on social media and, with plenty more voting the same way, there were unverified claims that Salah had finished second in the election.

It’s just as well he didn’t win – he’s a bit busy with the football right now...
