HUDL PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS SOFTWARE

FFT gets to grips with a video-editing gizmo you can use on your smartphone

-

What is it?

Hudl is an online performance analysis tool, which enables clubs to edit and share videos of training sessions and games, interact with stats and create highlight reels. All footage is uploaded to an app, which coaches and players have access to so they can watch clips at home and on the go.

How does it work?

Record your match or training session on a camera, iphone or Android device and then upload it to Hudl’s software. Once that’s complete, your entire team can access and review the footage on their smartphone or computer. A range of tools helps you to analyse and edit clips, track stats and chat via the app.

Who uses it?

More than 160,000 sides are now using Hudl to examine players’ performance. Their software is the analysis gizmo of choice for Southampton, Crystal Palace and other Premier League clubs. Hudl also helped Lincoln City win promotion to League Two and reach the last eight of the FA Cup last season.

Why are they using it?

Performance analysis used to involve watching videos and DVDS, but Hudl’s online platform means clips are now available with a quick tap on a player’s smartphone. This increases the speed at which training footage is reviewed and accelerates player learning, too.

How much does it cost?

That depends on the package your club chooses. The basic version will set your team back about £200 for one season, which is relatively cheap if you split the cost between the squad . Try it out and you might just get your hands on some silverware next year.
