3 WAYS TO SAVE WATER
Water is a precious resource in our gardens, particularly over the summer months. It’s best to prioritise plants in containers and baskets, crops and anything that’s been recently planted. Here are three water-wise tips:
STORE RAINWATER Attach a water butt to a downpipe coming from the house roof, shed or garage. Rain can be intermittent during the summer; by storing it like this you can have a free water source for those dry periods.
WATER WELL A quick sprinkle of water every day can make plants more vulnerable in dry weather. Instead give the soil all around them a thorough soaking to encourage the plants to develop deeper roots.
USE A MULCH Garden compost, chipped bark, spent hops and grass clippings will all help to reduce evaporation and slow down the loss of moisture.
