Give hanging baskets some TLC

At their peak of perfection now, hanging baskets need plenty of care to keep them looking good over the coming weeks.

Water twice a day In hot sunny weather, give them a good soak as it can be hard for water to be absorbed into the centre of the basket when the compost is congested with roots. Keep watering until the compost is thoroughly saturated and dripping from the base.

Feed once a week Use a liquid tomato fertiliser or homemade comfrey feed – both are relatively high in potash, which will encourage more flowers.

Deadhead spent flowers and snip off any yellowing foliage to keep your baskets looking neat.
