Bee or hoverfly?

-

ANTENNA Bees and wasps have long, wiry antennae spaced well apart; hoverflies tend to have short, stubby antennae, close together in the middle of the face.

TONGUES Hoverflies have sticky ‘sink plungers’, which they dab onto the flower. Bees and wasps have long, stiff 'tongues', which they extend into the flower.

EYES Bee eyes tend to be narrow and thin, on opposite sides of the head. Hoverfly eyes are large and round, covering almost the whole head and sometimes meeting in the middle.

BODY SHAPE Hoverflies generally narrow at the waist; bees have a really tiny waist between their thorax and abdomen.
