Solution of the month

How often should I water and feed my pots?

- GAIL BAILEY, NORTHAMPTON

Patio pots need regular watering throughout summer. The frequency depends on how big the plants are, the size of the pots and how often it rains. You may need to water every day in high summer. Feeding is also essential and should start about a month after planting up if you use a multipurpose compost. Apply a liquid feed once a week during the season (or twice a week if you dilute it to half strength). A less labourintensive option is to mix controlled-release fertiliser into the compost at planting time, which will feed your plants throughout summer.
