Should I put houseplants out in the sun?

- V WILLIAMS, WEST MIDLANDS

It may seem like a kindness but if you put shade-loving houseplants outside during summer it can actually harm them. The plants will never have seen the sun before and, if placed in too sunny a location, may become scorched. It’s better to put them outside on a dull day for a shower, then bring them back in.
