Weed it or feed it?

Q What is colonising my lawn? PAUL ABSOLOM, BY EMAIL

A Glechoma hederacea (ground ivy) has creeping stems that root as they grow and produce pretty lavender flowers. To control it, use lawn weedkiller and feed the turf to make it denser, which helps it to crowd out weeds. However, this plant also makes a great addition to wildlife gardens or for colonising shady rocky banks.
