A Sawfly don’t af­fect hostas and the prob­lem is al­most cer­tainly caused by slugs or snails. Many slugs spend the day hid­ing un­der the soil sur­face, so may not be ob­vi­ous un­less you hunt for them at night with a torch. Start pro­tect­ing your hostas early next spring with your pre­ferred method of slug con­trol.
