FROM EGG TO ADULT
From January onwards, clumps of spawn (eggs) are laid in ponds. Tadpoles hatch from the eggs within 2-4 weeks; frog tadpoles turn speckled while toad ones stay black. In about 16 weeks the back, then front legs appear. At around 6 months old the tadpoles absorb their tails and leave the water as tiny froglets in summer.
