Q Will scorched hostas survive?

- REBECCA BROWN, HORNCASTLE, LINCS

A Hostas are fairly resistant to drought once established but the foliage, especially of blue-leaved kinds, can get bleached by strong sun. Lack of water will cause the leaf edges and tips to turn brown too. The dry summer is largely to blame but at least it did reduce slug damage! It’s too late in the season for new foliage to appear, but it’s unlikely that your plants are damaged permanently.
