Thirsty rhodo

- MAXINE WALKER, LEEDS

Q How can I revive my sickly potted rhododendron?

A Rhododendrons are often grown in pots of ericaceous (acidic) compost if local soil conditions are too alkaline, but they must be kept moist at all times. If they dry out, the leaves will curl and hang and the plant may not recover. That’s why it’s best to grow rhododendrons with a little shade to help prevent them drying out in summer. Place the pot in a saucer in warmer months to help keep the compost moist.
