Plant identification

- MARGARET SANDFORD, BY EMAIL

Q Please can you identify this 3ft tall blue-flowered plant?

A This is Campanula medium, a Canterbury bell that produces masses of pleated flowers. Stems reach 1m (3ft 3in) high and plants will grow in full sun or part shade. It is a biennial so will die after flowering, but it should self-seed and the tiny seedlings will remain as rosettes of hairy leaves over winter before blooming. You can buy packets of seed containing pink and white flowers too.
