Garden Answers (UK)

Welcome

Months ago, who would have thought that venturing to the garden centre would

become such a big deal? While many of us are still self- isolating to avoid the risk of contracting Covid-19, others have been brave enough to test the social distancing measures at their local plant retailer – such as queuing a trolley’s length apart, wearing a face mask and maybe even rubber gloves! I don’t know about you, but at the moment I’m far too jumpy to enjoy browsing for plants. I prefer to just grab a bag of compost and birdseed and make a hasty exit. Well, as hasty as the 20-minute queue allows.

Perhaps most of all I miss having a cuppa in the café with my Mum… which is why I’ve decided to run a little competition on p9 to win free tea and cake at your favourite garden centre. It’s not sponsored: Garden Answers wants to treat one lucky reader to afternoon tea for two, as soon as garden centre cafés fully reopen. Such simple pleasures mean a great deal at the moment.

This month’s issue focuses on colour in the garden and invites you to discover your ‘colour style’. We’ve outlined four to choose from: dark opulence for adventurers, pastels for romantics, jewelbox brights for playful plantaholics, and cool monochrome for orderly, minimalist folk (p16). These are massive generalisations obviously – you might be a mix of all four, and more – but understanding your personal colour preferences might make plant shopping that bit easier and more focused. And quicker!

Good luck and stay safe :-)
