Choose grasses whose foliage changes colour as they mature. Here the design uses gold, green and bleached-blond tones for contrast. Deciduous grasses tend to age to a softer colour.

Plant in blocks of three, five and seven to maximise the impact of grasses. Oddnumbered multiples always look more natural.

Add a pond, or sculpture, as a focal point. Water provides lovely reflections for gazing, and a small solar-powered fountain will bring sound and movement.
