Can I prune off the lower branches from an evergreen magnolia ?

AThis is a seedling tree peony (Paeonia lutea). It might have self-sown from a large plant nearby or maybe a mouse or rat brought the (large) seed in from a neighbouring garden. I’d dig it out and pot it up carefully.
