Q Why are onions bolting now I’ve moved house?

ARed onions have a genetic tendency to bolt (more than white onions) when they suffer a check to growth. A dry or very hot period, or a cold spell with frosts, can stimulate the bulbs to produce f lowers.

The warm, wet Shropshire climate might have an impact too: perhaps try planting later so the onions aren’t frosted once they’ve started growing.
