Strong winds damaged the centre of my ‘Falstaff’ apple tree. Can I prune it to balance it out?

AYour tree would benefit from some formative pruning to balance out its shape – a job best done during winter. Cut it back quite hard: new shoots will appear in spring and should grow quite vigorously. You’ll need to shorten them next summer to encourage a bushier shape.
