Nesting birds and the law

Most people are aware that it’s illegal to intentionally take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it’s in use or being built. However, it’s also worth knowing that eggs are protected as well. It’s good practice to clean out nestboxes in autumn, but if there are unhatched eggs in there, you must throw them away rather than keep them.
