Q What are these fungi in our lawn and rockery?

- ANN EATON, NOTTINGHAM; PAT REAY, WEBSITE; AND MARIANNE CHARLESWORTH, NORWICH

A These toadstools are the fruiting part of a fungus that’s feeding on organic matter in the lawn, possibly wood or old tree roots. They don’t cause damage and will eventually disappear when all the wood they’re digesting has been depleted.
