Care for orchids on windowsills

Feeding your orchids on the windowsill during the growth season in spring and summer will give them a little boost and encourage flowering.

As they’re adapted to a nutrient-poor habitat, they won’t need as much fertiliser as other plants. If you’re using a standard houseplant fertiliser, just dilute it to half its normal strength, or you could use orchid fertiliser.

Also, it’s worth paying attention to how your individual orchid is growing – larger species with plenty of leaves, like some cymbidiums, will need more food than smaller plants such

as paphiopedilum.
