Feed and stake delphiniums

-

Newly-emerging delphinium foliage will be noticeable in borders now, so you’ll do well to help them along a bit before their blaze of glory in summer. They’re a bit precious at the moment, demanding TLC that needs to be done or they’ll be disappointing. Once your delphs have reached a foot or so high, get staking so using metal stakes or pea stick offcuts to keep them upright. They’ve unfortunately been bred a lot over the years to have bigger, brighter flowers so they’re now top heavy and need something to lean on! A little feed of blood, fish and bone, dug lightly into the soil around the plants, will be beneficial, too.
