Love me tender…
Now’s an ideal time to start sowing tender vegetables that are going to be planted and grown on in the garden when the conditions are warmer. Vegetables such as sweetcorn, dwarf beans, runner beans, courgettes, marrows and squashes are all tender and if planted out when it’s frosty, will be damaged or killed. To give the plants a head start I start the seeds off in the greenhouse or polytunnel by planting into cell trays or small pots of multi-purpose compost. To germinate, a little heat is needed, but once the seedlings are established they’ll grow on undercover and make strong plants for planting out into the garden when the danger of frost has passed.
