Prick out red cabbage

-

Red cabbage seedlings can be pricked out once the first two leaves have formed. Water the seedlings an hour beforehand as this helps separate the roots. Fill 7.5cm (3in) pots with a good-quality po ing compost, water it lightly and make a small hole in it. Lift seedlings individually with a dibber or pencil and handle by the leaves rather than the fragile stem. Try to keep the root system intact and drop the roots into the hole in the compost. Gently firm in the plants and water with a fine nozzle. Leave to develop on a sunny windowsill or greenhouse bench.
