Dawn’s favourite self- sowers and spreaders
Allium hollandicum ‘Purple Sensation’
Can actually increase year-on-year in good soil like Dawn’s, so there’s a huge display in her garden each May.
Galium odoratum
Sweet woodruff has beautiful, palmate, green leaves in spring and is a fantastic weed smotherer. The small, white, starry flowers appear from late spring.
Myosotis sylvatica
Forget-me-nots are a real favourite with the children and a lovely early spring flower that’s easy to get rid of where it’s not wanted!
Calendula officinalis
Pot or English marigolds brighten up the garden in late summer with their bright orange blooms and are also a great edible flower.
Lamium maculatum ‘Beacon Silver’
A great ground cover plant and the perfect way to brighten up Dawn’s very few shady borders.
Euphorbia characias wulfenii
The old plants get woody, but thankfully new plants always appear to replace them. They’re very tolerant of drought once they get established.
