Best rth-facing walls
A north-facing wall is a challenge for most roses, although if there’s no overhang from trees a lot of roses will survive and bloom. Pale-coloured roses will show up best in shady conditions and they’ll keep their colour well. The white ‘Albéric Barbier’ is a perfect choice and recommended for shady walls. It’s repeat flowering and although it has little scent, any is better than none. The big, whiteflowered ‘Rambling Rector’ and ‘Francis E. Lester’ are suitable if there’s room.
