TOP TIPS FOR TASTY EATS

-

It’s a more common mistake than you think, but only grow things that you enjoy eating! Use a loam-based John Innes No 3 compost in containers, because it holds moisture and nutrients more effectively than other composts. Use the largest container you possibly can, but in summer it’s possible to use baskets as well. Avoid metal in full sun, as it heats up too much for the plants. Any containerised plants need regular watering, because the plants are packed in tightly. Mornings are best and, if you can leave a couple of watering cans full overnight, the warm water will encourage growth. Feed every 10 days with a highpotash tomato food to encourage flowers and fruit. Harvest regularly, to keep the crop productive. If you’re going on holiday ask a friend to pick your produce for you.
