Damp down the greenhouse

Good greenhouse management is vital to keep plants healthy and get the best out of them. It’s a man-made growing environmen­t, so it’s up to us to manipulate and maintain it correctly so we can grow lots of lovely produce!

There are a few ways to keep an eye on the greenhouse and the burgeoning plants inside now, but one of the most important at this time of year is to damp down. To keep a more even temperatur­e, to guard against too much heat and increase the humidity, you can be watering the greenhouse floor up to three times a day. It’ll give a nice, moist atmosphere, so plants won’t get too stressed when temperatur­es rise. Check the weather forecast and, if sunny and warm spells are on their way, you can do this one little job to help your plants out.

Otherwise you can use some shading if your greenhouse is in an exposed, sunny spot. Always have a thermomete­r handy to check how hot it actually is in there and act accordingl­y by ventilatin­g and watering well. Here are some other ways to care for greenhouse plants:
