Bag Tesco funds for your community
Grocery giant Tesco is making millions of pounds available for green-fingered communities. The ‘Bags of Help’ initiative, run in conjunction with environmental and social charity Groundwork, is awarding grants raised from the 5p bag levy to community projects around the country. To date £30m has been invested on 4,600 projects, such as Westwood Grange Allotment Association in Peterborough, who used money to transform a shipping container into a communal seating and barbecue area.
After shortlisting by Groundwork, three community projects in each local area will be voted on by customers in Tesco stores throughout the UK, with projects changing every other month. Following the vote, the project receiving the most in its area will receive a grant of up to £4,000, while second place projects will get up to £2,000 and third up to £1,000. “Millions have been invested so far on local projects, such as parks, school playgrounds and community gardens,” said Tesco head of UK community Lindsey Crompton. l To launch or nominate a scheme obtain information in store or visit www. tesco. com/bagsofhelp.
